Financial development and governance: A panel data analysis incorporating cross-sectional dependence

چکیده

This study investigates bidirectional causality between governance and financial development using panel data of 101 countries from 1984 to 2013. The development–governance nexus is explored econometric methods robust cross-sectional dependence, the relationship different levels openness analyzed. Long-run equation estimates show clear evidence that positively affects governance, this positive impact found be three measures governance. Further analysis shows improving quality has a effect on development, while Granger tests demonstrate measures. Finally, dependent country’s level openness. These findings underscore crucial role in bringing about good reforms economic growth that, turn, can further develop sector. As such, symbiotic synergistic persist growth, development. provide significant motivation for policymakers encourage sector lift standard living, especially emerging economies.

Financial Development and Economic Growth: Panel Data and Trilateral Analysis

A large body of literatures links financial development to economic growth, yet the channels through which inflation and economic development affect this relationship have been less thoroughly explored. This research takes econometric and trilateral graphic approaches to examine these channels using 99 developing and developed countries during the years 1960-2009. Findings prove that respecti...

A Nonlinear Panel Data Model of Cross-sectional Dependence∗

This paper proposes a new panel model of cross-sectional dependence. The model has a number of potential structural interpretations that relate to economic phenomena such as herding in financial markets. On an econometric level, it provides a flexible approach of modelling interactions across panel units and can generate endogenous cross-sectional dependence that can resemble the dependence tha...

Semiparametric Single-Index Panel Data Models With Cross-Sectional Dependence

In this paper, we consider a semiparametric single index panel data model with cross–sectional dependence, high–dimensionality and stationarity. Meanwhile, we allow fixed effects to be correlated with the regressors to capture unobservable heterogeneity. Under a general spatial error dependence structure, we then establish some consistent closed–form estimates for both the unknown parameters an...

Semiparametric Trending Panel Data Models with Cross-Sectional Dependence

A semiparametric fixed effects model is introduced to describe the nonlinear trending phenomenon in panel data analysis and it allows for the cross–sectional dependence in both the regressors and the residuals. A pooled semiparametric profile likelihood dummy variable approach based on the first–stage local linear fitting is developed to estimate both the parameter vector and the nonparametric ...

Panel Stationarity Tests with Cross-sectional Dependence

We present a test of the null hypothesis of stationarity against unit root alternatives for panel data that allows for arbitrary cross-sectional dependence. We treat the short run time series dynamics non-parametrically and thus avoid the need to fit separate models for the individual series. The statistic is simple to compute and is asymptotically normally distributed, even in the presence of ...
